WASHINGTON, DC (June 26, 2024) — Today, Representative Valerie Foushee (NC-04) announced a $12 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund improvements to 33 intersections in Durham including installation of ADA curb ramps and crosswalks, tightening of curb radii, upgrades to bus stop amenities, and closing of approximately 1.19 miles of sidewalk gaps through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program.
“As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I am pleased to see the City of Durham’s Safe Access to Holloway Street initiative among the projects receiving federal funding to make necessary upgrades to transit infrastructure,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “Thanks to the Biden Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these funds will help install ADA curb ramps and sidewalks, and modernize transit infrastructure to ensure that Durham’s transit routes can be safe and inclusive for local families, schools, and small businesses.”
RAISE grants were originally created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as TIGER grants, and were authorized as the RAISE grant program in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which provided the program with $7.5 billion over five years. RAISE grant funding is awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation and can be used for a variety of infrastructure projects with local or regional impact.
Congresswoman Foushee serves as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, and serves as the Vice Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials.
